Farming is no longer just driving a tractor and harvesting crops. Today's farming industry requires more technical skill than ever before. From unmanned aircraft systems, smart irrigation, terrain contour mapping, self-driving and GPS-enabled tractors...today's growers are using more technology to work better and faster.
In just four semesters, ASU-Newport Agriculture Technology students learn the hands-on skills they need to be successful in modern-day agriculture. With the help of local producers and industry partners, students get the opportunity to work directly in the fields with a mobile precision ag lab learning GPS, GIS, farm management software and much more.
Agriculture is the largest industry in Arkansas contributing around $16 billion to the state's economy each year. This program came to fruition because local industry leaders said they needed skilled and qualified workers to carry industry standards into the future. ASUN students are in high demand working for industry leaders like Helena Chemical, Greenway Equipment, Young's Irrigation and many others.
