1098T Tax Documents Here!

1098T Forms Are Here

The ASU-Newport Business Office is in the process of preparing 1098T’s (tax statement).

Once these have been completed, you will have the ability to access your 1098T online.

Please note, the 1098T is an informational document only and is provided by educational institutions to assist students in determining if they are eligible for federal income tax education credits. It should not be considered as tax opinion or advice.  While it is a good starting point, the 1098-T, as designed and regulated by the IRS, does not contain all of the information needed to claim a tax credit.

Statements will be ready by January 31st.  Once the 1098T statements are ready, you will be able to immediately access and print them online.  This is beneficial in that you will not have to wait on a mailed paper copy in order to file your tax return.

2023 1098-T access:

To access your 1098-T electronically, go to my.asun.edu and login using your username and password. If you forgot your username or password, use the password reset feature. If you have not setup Duo, please select Step 1 to download and setup Duo. You must have the Duo app in order to access your 1098-T electronically. If you have issues setting up Duo, please go to www.asun.edu and under the Resources tab, select IT Services.  From here, you will be able to submit a ticket for setting up your Duo account.

Once you’re logged in, go to Banner Self-Service and login (This may take several attempts). Once logged in, there will be a link called 2023 Tax Year 1098-T under the Student Accounts section. Select this link to access your 1098-T.

Please read below to determine whether you were eligible to receive a 1098-T:

Note: Your 1098T for 2022 will look different than those you have received from ASU-Newport in the past.  The option for colleges and universities to report Box 2 “Amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses” was eliminated by the IRS.  We will now report Box 1 “Payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses”.

Who gets a 1098T?

Any student who made a payment toward qualified tuition or related expenses or was awarded financial aid during the prior year will have a 1098T eligible to print.  Please note, Arkansas State University – Newport is not qualified to provide legal and/or tax advice. For tax advice on how to use the 1098T, please contact a tax professional.

If you cannot access your 1098T electronically by February 1st and feel that you should have received one, please log in to Self Service and check your payments and aid applied for the previous year.  If you still feel that you should have received a 1098-T, please email 1098t@asun.edu and we will gladly check your account.
