ASU-Newport Institutional Scholarships

ASU-Newport Asset Scholarship

Background: The ASU-Newport Student Asset Scholarship is an institutional scholarship that is awarded to those first-time entering students who meet ONE of the following combinations of eligibility requirements:

  • College Admission Test Scores (ACT 31-36) AND Cumulative High School Grade Point Average (Cumulative GPA 3.50 or better)
  • Class Rank AND Cumulative High School Grade Point Average
  • High School Skills USA Performance (Gold)
  • High School Skills Performance (1st place)
  • High School Equivalent Performance (GED® Test Scores of 175 or higher on all four subject areas)

Application Requirements:

  • Not receiving any other ASU-Newport institutional scholarship.
  • Application must be made prior to the deadline listed below.
  • High School students with concurrent credit are considered first-time entering.
  • High school must be accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education.
  • Applicants must complete the current year's FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034)

Award Amount: $1,500 (4 consecutive semesters or equivalent)
Renewal Requirements:

  • Students must have a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and pass 67% of their courses (PACE).  The scholarship is renewable for three additional semesters as long as the required cumulative GPA and PACE are met. Academic progress will be verified at the end of each term of enrollment by the ASUN financial aid office.
  • Scholarship recipient must complete at least 15 hours per semester.

Other Information:

  • Scholarships are awarded in the order they are received.
  • All scholarship awards are contingent on availability of funds.
  • A copy of student’s ACT scores must be returned with the application.

ASU-Newport Honor Scholarship

Background: The ASU-Newport Student Honor Scholarship is an institutional scholarship that is awarded to those first-time entering students who meet ONE of the following combinations of eligibility requirements:

  • College Admission Test Scores (ACT 24-30) AND Cumulative High School Grade Point Average (Cumulative GPA 3.50 or better)
  • High School Skills USA Performance (Silver)
  • ASU-Newport sponsored High School Skills Performance (2nd place).

Application Requirements:

  • Not receiving any other ASU-Newport institutional scholarship.
  • The application must be made prior to the deadline listed below.
  • High School students with concurrent credit are considered first-time entering.
  • High school must be accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education.

ASU-Newport Distinction Scholarship

Background: The ASU-Newport Student Distinction Scholarship is an institutional scholarship that is awarded to those first-time entering students who meet ONE of the following combinations of eligibility requirements:

  • College Admission Test Scores (ACT 22-23) AND Cumulative High School Grade Point Average (Cumulative GPA 3.25 or better)
  • High School Skills USA Performance (Bronze)
  • ASU-Newport sponsored High School Skills Performance (3rd place).

  • Not receiving any other ASU-Newport institutional scholarship.
  • The application must be made prior to the deadline listed below.
  • High School students with concurrent credit are considered first-time entering.
  • High school must be accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education.

ASU-Newport Drug Court Program Scholarship Application

BACKGROUND: Each academic year, Arkansas State University-Newport will award scholarships not to exceed a total of $6,000 per fiscal year to students who have successfully completed the Arkansas Drug Court Program. Award amounts are contingent on availability of funding and number of applicants per fiscal year.  
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Admitted ASU-Newport Student
  • Eligible for Federal Financial Aid-Making Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Completed Drug Court Program

APPLICATION REQUIREMENT:

  • Completed Student Information Sheet
  • Applicants must write an essay (200-250 words) about their goals beyond earning their credential(s) from ASU-Newport. (Note: Include the word count at the bottom of the essay.)
  • Recommendation letter from Drug Court Coordinator
  • Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034)

AWARD AMOUNT: Award amounts will vary depending on the number of applicants and availability of funds.

ASU-Newport LEADS Scholarship

BACKGROUND: The Arkansas State University-Newport Academic LEADS Scholarship is designed to assist students who serve in leadership roles in ASU-Newport Registered Student Organizations. This scholarship is $500.00 per semester for a maximum of two semesters. This award is open to students who serve in President and Vice President roles in ASU-Newport Registered Student Organizations.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicant must be currently serving as President or Vice President of an ASU-Newport Registered Student Organization. 
  • Applicant will be enrolling as a full-time student in the Fall semester at ASUN and not be receiving the ASUN Academic Scholarship or ASUN Incentive Scholarship.
  • Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034)

APPLICATION REQUIREMENT:

  • Completed Student Information Sheet
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from the ASU-Newport Registered Student Organization’s Sponsor.

AWARD AMOUNT: President- $500.00 per semester; Vice President- $500.00 per semester
RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS: The scholarship is a one-time award. 
OTHER INFORMATION:

  • First selection will be given to students who do not receive other forms of financial assistance.
  • Scholarship recipients will also be required to attend the annual Scholarship Luncheon and agree to have their names and photos utilized in institutional publications.

ASU-Newport Ambassador Scholarship

Background: The ASU-Newport Student Ambassador Scholarship is awarded to students who have exhibited leadership in high school. Number of scholarships awarded is based on the availability of funds.
Application Requirements:

  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities while in high school
  • Must have a 3.00 cumulative high school grade point average (GPA)
  • Must enroll in the next academic year as a full-time student at an Arkansas State University –Newport campus
  • Scholarship eligibility is based upon a student’s involvement and leadership in high school and on the Arkansas State University-Newport campus. 
  • Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034)

Award Amount: $1,000.00 per semester
Renewal Requirements:

  • Students must have a 2.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and pass 67% of their courses (PACE).  The scholarship is renewable for one additional semester as long as the required cumulative GPA and PACE are met. Academic progress will be verified at the end of each term of enrollment by the ASUN financial aid office.
  • Renewal of Scholarship is contingent upon fulfilling the duties and responsibilities as a recipient of the Ambassador Scholarship.

ASU-Newport Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship

Background: Arkansas State University-Newport strongly values diversity, inclusion and student success. The Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion scholarship is dedicated to attracting and retaining students who demonstrate leadership capabilities.
Application Requirements:

  • Student must demonstrate leadership skills and activities related to diversity and inclusion leadership in their community.
  • Minimum of 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average (GPA).
  • First-time entering student; first-time does not include students who have taken concurrent courses.
  • Not receiving any other ASU-Newport institutional scholarship.
  • Application must be made prior to the deadline listed below.

ASU-Newport GED Scholarship

Background: The Arkansas State University-Newport Student GED® Scholarship is an institutional scholarship was created to promote college-going of GED graduates from the ASU-Newport Adult Education program.
Application Requirements:

  • Earned GED Diploma from the ASU-Newport Adult Education Program.
  • Not receiving any other ASU-Newport institutional scholarship.
  • Application must be made prior to the deadline listed below.
  • Scholarship can be applied to any academic program offered any of the ASU-Newport campuses
  • Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034)

Award Amount: $500.00 per semester. Renewable for three additional semesters or the length of the program.

ASU-Newport Noah Reeves Scholarship

Background: The Arkansas State University-Newport Noah Reeves Scholarship is an institutional scholarship designed to assist degree-seeking ASU-Newport students who have faced adversity with tuition and fees. The recipient of this scholarship will have demonstrated that although they have encountered hardship, they have persevered and committed themselves to become successful in reaching their academic goals.  
Application Requirements:

  • Student must demonstrate their experience with overcoming adversity.
  • Minimum of 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) or college GPA from the last institution attended.
  • Not receiving any other ASU-Newport institutional scholarship.
  • Application must be made prior to the deadline listed below.
  • High school must be accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education
  • Applicants must complete the current year’s FAFSA. (ASUN School Code: 042034) 

Award Amount: $500.00 per semester. Renewable for three additional semesters or the length of the program.

Spring 2020 Renewal Criteria Updates for ASUN Institutional Scholarships

Approved Revision to the Renewal Criteria: Suspend the quantitative component of the renewal requirement (67% percentage of completion)and adjust the qualitative component (renewal grade point average for the term to a 2.00 instead of 3.00). This revision would be in effect until ASU-Newport resumes normal instructional methods.

Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship

Assisting students get the education they need for the career they want. Scholarships can be used for personal living expenses, like utilities, gas, and groceries. Scholarships are available to mothers and fathers who are currently enrolled in college.
Eligibility:

  • Resident of Arkansas
  • Single head of household (single, legally separated, divorced, widowed) with sole custody of a child under 18
  • High school graduate or equivalent (may apply if enrolled in college and in the process of obtaining GED diploma)
  • Pursuing a vocationally-oriented undergraduate course of study (full or part-time) to ensure a better standard of living for his/her family. Applicants cannot already have earned an undergraduate degree.
  • A low-income person at or near the poverty level
  • Recipient of a Pell grant or in process of obtaining Pell

Award: Award amounts vary.

Carl Tapp Technician Scholarship

Arkansas Trucking Association has launched an opportunity to encourage growth in the diesel technician workforce, as well as a way to help assure that the safest, most knowledgeable and skilled technicians are working on the trucks and trailers on our roads. The Carl Tapp Technician Scholarship Program supports aspiring techs in their education and certification pursuits at Arkansas institutions that produce workforce-prepared diesel technicians. 
Eligibility: 

  1. You must be graduating from an accredited vocational, public, private, or parochial high school.
  2. It is necessary for you or an official from your high school to send ATA your official high school transcript showing your most recent three years’ academic performance.
  3. Your application must be received by the ATA office by April 2, 2021. Awards will be announced by May 14, 2021.
  4. Scholarship is awarded towards a minimum two-semester medium/heavy duty truck technician program from a school that is within the state of Arkansas. Students may begin their course of study in either August or January based on individual program requirements.
  5. Before the scholarship is awarded, ATA must verify your acceptance from the chosen school.

Arkansas Education and Training Voucher Program for Foster and Former Foster Youth 

The Arkansas Education and Training Voucher Program for Foster and Former Foster Youth offers funds to foster youth up to age 26 and former foster youth to attend colleges, universities, and vocational training institutions. 
Eligibility: Be a current foster youth or former foster youth attending a college, university, or vocational training institution. 
Award: You can be awarded an ETV grant up to $2,500 each semester (as long as funding is available).

Renewal Requirements: In order to get your second award amount for this academic year, please make sure to complete the Checklist for Re-Determination (ETV Part II) form.  You can get this form from your Transitional Youth Services Coordinator or Family Service Worker, or online. The proper form will need to be completed prior to the beginning of each semester in addition to submitting the required documents listed on the “ETV Checklist”.

Private Donor Scholarships

Eligibility: The Northeast Arkansas Charitable Foundation administers private donor scholarships for students who are attending ASU-Newport campus. These scholarships are generally awarded annually and priority will be given based on need, specific donor guidelines, and/ or scholastic achievement. 
Award: Amount varies according to need, funding, and donor criteria.

Fowler Family Hospitality Scholarship

Background: Each academic year, Arkansas State University-Newport will award 2 scholarships to students in the Hospitality Services Program: One Technical and one Associate degree seeking.  
Application Requirement:

  • Applicants must write a 200-word essay about their goals beyond earning their credential(s) from ASU-Newport and how being in the hospitality services program will help them achieve the goals listed. (Note: Include the word count at the bottom of the essay.)

Jane M. Pratt Education Trust Scholarship

Background: The Jane M. Pratt Education Trust Scholarship is awarded to Jackson County residents to further their education. Mr. Bill Pratt along with his late brother, Richard, established the scholarship toward the wishes of their sister, Jane.
Application Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of a Jackson County School
  • Must be enrolled on the ASU – Newport Campus
  • Applicants must have a provable financial need
  • Applicants must have a high school grade average of “C” (2.0 or higher)
  • Applicants shall be considered based on extra-curricular activities in high school and civic, church, charitable areas, etc.

Award Amount: $500.00 per semester

Background: The David L. & Imogene Garrett Johnston Memorial Scholarship Endowment was created to assist an ASU-Newport (Newport campus) student fulfill their educational goal of becoming a nurse. The scholarship is a one-time award that is awarded on an annual basis.

James and Joan Tinsley Scholarship Application 

Background: The James and Joan Tinsley Scholarship is a $500.00 renewable scholarship to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport student. The scholarship is designed to provide aid to students who demonstrate financial need. These funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books. 
Application Requirements: 

  • The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50. 
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
  • The applicant must possess a positive attitude, strong work ethic and recognizable drive.
  • Significant preference will be given to residents of Swifton, AR. 
  • The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words). SEE BELOW. 

Award Amount: $500.00 per semester
Renewal Requirements: Students must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and pass 67% of their courses (PACE). The scholarship may be renewable for up to three additional semesters if the required GPA and PACE are met. Sydney Sutherland Memorial Scholarship

Background: The Sydney Sutherland Memorial Scholarship is a $500.00 renewable scholarship to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport Health Professions student.
Application Requirement:

  • The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
  • The applicant must be seeking a degree in the Health Professions Industry with a preference given to students seeking a nursing degree.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
  • The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words).

Award Amount: $500 per semester
Renewal Requirements:The scholarship is renewable in the amount of $500.00 for one additional semester if the student has maintained a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and is enrolled in 6 credit hours.

H.G. "Gus" Graham Jr. Scholarship

Background: The H.G. “Gus” Graham Jr. Scholarship is $250.00 per semester for a maximum of two semesters to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport Agriculture Technology student graduating from Tuckerman High School.
The scholarship is designed to help meet the educational needs of students who demonstrate financial need. These funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books.
Application Requirement:

  • The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 3.0.
  • The applicant must be seeking a degree in the Agriculture Technology program.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
  • The applicant must be a graduate of Tuckerman High School.
  • The applicant must write an essay (200-250 words) explaining why agriculture is important, beyond feeding and clothing the planet.

Award Amount: $250.00 per semester for a maximum of two semesters
Renewal Requirements: The scholarship is renewable provided for one additional semester for $250.00 if the awardee maintains a 3.0 overall GPA and has not dropped or failed any classes.
Note: The fund is administered by Arkansas State University - Newport.

Marilyn Thompson Opportunity Through Education Scholarship

Background: The Marilyn Thompson Opportunity Through Education Scholarship is a renewable scholarship in the amount of $500.00 per semester, to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport student for up to four (4) semesters. The scholarship is designed to provide aid to students from a minority race or ethnicity who demonstrate financial need. 
Application Requirement:

  • The applicant must represent a minority race or ethnicity.

Background: The Twyford Family Business Scholarship is a $500.00 one-time scholarship to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport student majoring in Business, Business Technology or Business Operations. Preference may be given to applicants graduating from Jackson County, Arkansas.

Three Rivers Healthcare and Rehabilitation Scholarship 

The Three Rivers Healthcare and Rehabilitation Scholarship fund will support the awarding of one (1) $1000.00 scholarship to Arkansas State University-Newport student at the Marked Tree site each fall and spring semester. Applicants must be enrolled in a healthcare program at ASUN, specifically the LPN and/or CNA career path. The scholarship is designed to help meet the educational needs of students who demonstrate financial need. These funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books.
Eligibility: 

  • The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50. 
  • The applicant must be seeking certification in the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and/or the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) career path. 
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours. 
  • Preference will be given to applicants seeking LPN certification and interested in the care of the elderly. 
  • The applicant must be a resident of Poinsett County, AR, and attend the ASUN Marked Tree campus. 
  • The applicant must submit a brief summary of his/her educational plans and goals and why you have chosen a career path in healthcare. 

Award: $1,000 per semester

Ralph G. Norman Scholarship

The Learning Disabilities Association of Arkansas is seeking applicants for the 2018 Ralph G. Norman Scholarship, which is awarded to an individual with a documented learning disability who will be enrolled in the Fall 2018 at a university, two-year community college, or a vocational/technical training program.

The ideal scholarship recipient is an individual who:

Farmer’s Union Mutual Insurance is offering a scholarship to be awarded to an Arkansas State University-Newport Agriculture Technology student. The scholarship is designed to help meet the educational needs of students who demonstrate financial need. These funds can be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books.
Application Requirements:

  • The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.50.
  • The applicant must be seeking a degree in the Agriculture Technology program.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 credit hours. 

Award Amount:  $TBD (4 consecutive semesters or equivalent)
Renewal Requirements:

  • Students must have a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and pass 67% of their courses (PACE). The scholarship is renewable for three additional semesters as long as the required cumulative GPA and PACE are met. Academic progress will be verified at the end of each term of enrollment by the ASUN financial aid office.
  • Scholarship recipient must complete at least 15 hours per semester.

Background: The Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Committee will award a scholarship to a graduating high school senior(s) from the Jonesboro region. Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship 

Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarships are available for Minorities who will teach in the Delta Region. Applications for the Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship Program are now available for the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 semesters at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and at all two-year and four-year colleges/universities. UAPB administers the scholarship program that was reauthorized by the 84th General Assembly (Act 1746) to address the shortage of public school teachers in the Delta Region, particularly minority teachers. The program awards up to $1,500.00 per academic year (fall and spring semesters) for full-time enrollment and up to $750.00 per academic year for part-time enrollment. Applicants must submit an application, along with all official transcripts to the Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship Program, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Mail Slot - 4986, Pine Bluff, AR 71601.
