Getting Ready to Graduate
We’re so excited that you’re getting ready to graduate from ASU-Newport! 🎓
Below, you’ll find everything you need to know: from submitting your Intent to Graduate and ordering your regalia to finding your ceremony, understanding ticket and regalia requirements, and learning when to expect your diploma.
Before you can graduate, there are a few important things to take care of first.
Let’s get started!
Submit your Intent to Graduate & RSVP
Step 1: Confirm with your Advisor* that you are completing a program of study.

Step 2: Complete the Intent to Graduate & RSVP Form
Order your Regalia (Cap-Gown-Tassel Unit)
Most students order this online at Brown's Graduation Supplies.
- Click Graduation Supplies at the top of the page.
- Select Arkansas State University-Newport as your school.
- Select Cap-Gown-Tassel Unit at the bottom of the page. (Cost: $48.95)
Important: Your cap, gown, and tassel will be mailed to the address you provide. They will not be available for pickup at ASUN.

Ticket Information
- Each graduate may receive a maximum of 5 tickets.
- Tickets may be picked up at your selected campus May 7–14.
- Tickets may also be picked up at the Guest Check-In table before the ceremony on May 15.
- Guests with tickets should arrive at least 30 minutes before the ceremony to ensure seating.
- Guests without tickets will be seated in overflow rooms and may be moved into the CFA if seating becomes available.
- Review the Seating Policy for additional information.
Regalia Policy
- Graduates walking in commencement are required to wear a black cap, gown, and Persian Blue/Black Tassel. Gown must be completely zipped. Decorations on caps must be approved.
- Decorations on caps must be flat and not over 1/2 inch in height - no large flowers or items.
- For approval, email a picture of the cap to the graduation@asun.edu. NOTE: Graduates will be asked to remove any adornment which do not comply with the regalia policy.
- No personal adornments shall be worn over the gown except the commencement cords approved & provided by ASUN:

PTK Shawls
PTK shawls are provided with paid membership in the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
Nursing Shawls/Stoles
TRN nursing shawls worn during capping and pinning are purchased by the graduate and
include the words Nursing, the RN symbol, and the class. No other words or modifications may be added.
Tassel Placement
Before the ceremony, place your tassel on the right side of your cap. At the end of the ceremony, move it to the left side.
Nursing Capping & Pinning Ceremonies
Capping and/or Pinning ceremonies honor students graduating from ASUN's Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing programs. Students in these programs must attend their Capping and/or Pinning ceremony and are encouraged to attend commencement.

Diploma Distribution
- Degrees and certificates are awarded after all grades are posted and moved to history.
- Once degrees are awarded, diplomas are printed and mailed.
- December graduates may experience a slight delay because of the holiday break or inclement weather.
- Student accounts must have no holds and a $0 balance to receive diplomas.
- Diploma covers are presented to graduates on stage during the commencement ceremony.
