Program Overview

Want to work in the operating room? Surgical technologists — often called scrub techs — assist surgeons, pass instruments, and maintain sterile environments during procedures. The Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology at ASU-Newport offers advanced training in surgical assistance, preparing students for certification and careers in the operating room. The program covers surgical procedures, sterilization techniques, and patient care. Students learn to prepare operating rooms, assist surgeons during procedures, and manage surgical instruments. The curriculum includes clinical rotations in hospitals, providing hands-on experience in various surgical specialties. Graduates are prepared for certification exams and can work as surgical technologists in hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, and other healthcare facilities.
