Charles Walker Named Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
NEWPORT (Ark.) — Arkansas State University-Newport (ASUN) has named Charles Walker as its next Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, effective June 1, 2026.

With over two decades of leadership experience across the higher education, healthcare,
and manufacturing sectors, Walker possesses a broad operational background in finance,
administration, workforce strategy, and human resources.
“Charles is an invaluable asset to ASU-Newport and was a stellar candidate for this
position,” Interim Chancellor Ike Wheeler said. “He brings a people-centered leadership
style, a strong commitment to fiscal stewardship and a vision for transparency and
inclusivity that aligns with the future of fiscal affairs operations at ASU-Newport.”
At ASUN, Walker has overseen key grant-funded initiatives, worked on sustainable revenue
modeling, and built employer partnerships. During a prior tenure as Associate Vice
Chancellor for Administration, his responsibilities included departmental budgeting,
procurement, facilities, and HR operations.
His career also includes corporate leadership roles focused on cost containment, compliance,
and workforce planning. A veteran of the Arkansas Army National Guard, Walker served
in various command and staff leadership positions. He holds a Bachelor of Science
in Business Management from Arkansas State University and is a certified Senior Professional
in Human Resources.
Campus leadership extends thanks to the search committee, colleagues from the Arkansas
State University System Office, and the Newport Economic Development Commission for
