ASUN Practical Nursing Program Celebrates 100% Pass Rate

NEWPORT, Ark. — Graduates of Arkansas State University-Newport’s Practical Nursing program at the Newport campus have achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses, marking the third consecutive Newport cohort to earn a perfect pass rate.

The NCLEX-PN is the national examination used by state nursing boards to determine whether practical nursing graduates are prepared to begin practicing safely as entry-level licensed practical nurses.

Achieving a perfect pass rate across three consecutive cohorts reflects the sustained commitment of ASU-Newport’s students and the exceptional work of Newport Practical Nursing instructors Katy Warren and Latisha Clark.

“This accomplishment represents far more than one successful class,” said Dr. Stacie Hay, dean for Nursing and Health Professions at ASU-Newport. “Three consecutive cohorts earning a 100% pass rate demonstrates the consistency and strength of our Newport Practical Nursing program. Katy Warren and Latisha Clark invest an extraordinary amount of time, knowledge and care in preparing their students, and these results reflect that dedication.”

ASU-Newport’s 11-month Practical Nursing program leads to a Technical Certificate and combines classroom instruction, laboratory experience, and clinical rotations in a variety of healthcare settings. Students develop fundamental nursing skills while learning patient care techniques, medication administration, patient education, ethical practice and effective communication.

Graduates are prepared to take the NCLEX-PN and pursue careers as licensed practical nurses in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and other healthcare facilities.

“Our Practical Nursing graduates enter a profession that is essential to the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Dr. Typhanie Myers, Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at ASU-Newport. “We are tremendously proud of these students and grateful for the commitment Katy Warren and Latisha Clark bring to the classroom and clinical setting. Their work is helping prepare the skilled, compassionate nurses our region needs.”

The Practical Nursing program is offered at ASU-Newport’s Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree campuses, with cohorts beginning in the fall and spring. Applications for the Spring 2027 cohort are due October 15. Additional information, admission requirements, and application materials are available at asun.edu/nursing .
