Registration for Spring 2015 Remains Open at ASUN

NEWPORT, Ark. (1-9-2015) — Registration for the Spring 2015 semester at Arkansas State University-Newport remains underway and classes begin Jan. 20 at ASUN’s campus locations in Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree, as well as online.

The spring semester is an excellent time for students to begin taking college courses, especially those who may have been hesitant to do so in the past.  ASU-Newport’s spring course schedule features classes that are generally smaller, with a low student-to-teacher ratio, and provide an excellent opportunity for one-on-one instruction.  ASU-Newport’s Developmental Math and Developmental English classes are excellent refresher courses for students who have considered enrolling or have been away from school for an extended period of time.

Also new to the ASUN course schedule for Spring 2015 are on-site course offerings in the Harrisburg, McCrory, Lepanto and Tyronza communities.   Arkansas State University-Newport recently completed the connection of its campus locations in Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree to three Arkansas school districts in an interactive partnership that will allow for citizens of these rural areas to take college courses in their communities.

ASU-Newport received a USDA Rural Utility Services Distance Learning Technology grant of approximately $460,000 that allowed the two-year college to connect with the Harrisburg School District, the McCrory School District and the East Poinsett County School District.  In Harrisburg, ASUN is connected with Harrisburg High School, Harrisburg Middle School and Harrisburg Elementary School, in McCrory ASUN’s service extends to the high school, and the EPC School District has connections in Tyronza at the elementary school and in Lepanto at the middle school and high school.

ASU-Newport currently offers over 35 degrees and/or technical certifications and 14 certificates of proficiency in more than 15 fields of study, and its enrollment of 2,494 students in the current Fall 2014 semester set an all time-high for the college.

ASU-Newport’s other course offerings include College Algebra, Physical Science, Chemistry, Earth Science, Survey of Physics, English, Biological Science, U.S. and World History, Business Law, Criminal Justice and many more.  Courses are offered online as well as on all three of ASUN’s campuses in Newport, Marked Tree and Jonesboro.  Technical programs include Welding, Surgical Technology, Nursing, Collision Repair and Refinishing, Commercial Driver Training, Renewable Energy Technology, Telecommunications, Computer and Network Technology and Diesel Technology.

To enroll at ASU-Newport, prospective students need to submit an application for admission, ACT/Compass scores, official high school transcript or GED score and immunization records.  For more information or to begin the registration process, call 800-976-1676 or log on to www.asun.edu.  Spring 2015 course offerings may be found here.
