ASUN students earn Microsoft certifications

A partnership between Arkansas State University-Newport and Microsoft is allowing students to get certification on a variety of computer programs.

ASUN is part of the Microsoft Imagine Academy. It provides students with a free e-book for certain courses. Once they complete the course, ASUN is able to provide the student with a testing voucher to take the certification exam on campus for free.

Five students recently passed the certification exam. Janna Ellis, Assistant Professor of Business, proudly announced Jericho Smith, Ann Marie Reynolds, Matthew Chase Fort, Angelica Lara and Jessica Angle all passed the exam.

“We are very happy to be able to offer this opportunity to our students taking these courses,” Ellis said. “Having Microsoft certification will make our students more employable. If they pass it will provide them with a certification from Microsoft that proves they have skills in the area of their certification, which will help them get noticed when applying for a job.”

According to Microsoft, these certifications are very valuable to employers. The accomplishment helps build a resume and allows a job seeker to get hired faster. Microsoft stated certified developers are 90% more productive and nearly 60% more efficient.

Students taking Introduction to Computers, Microcomputer Applications, Administrative Technology, Spreadsheets for Managerial Decisions and Database management Systems have access to these certification opportunities.  Certifications are available for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access Specialist.
