ASUN Student receives NCLEX® Scholarship

Kiana Bolden

Phi Theta Kappa announced last week that Arkansas State University-Newport nursing graduate Kiana Bolden is one of 10 society members to receive a Hurst Review National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX®) Scholarship.

The scholarship, funded by national nursing exam prep company Hurst Review Services, is given exclusively to Phi Theta Kappa nursing majors to help cover the NCLEX® exam fee and cost of study materials. All scholarship winners will receive a passcode to use the Hurst Review study materials and a $250 scholarship to pay for the exam.

Ms. Bolden is a recent graduate of the ARNEC program at ASUN. “We are so proud of Kiana and how hard she has worked,” said Dr. Sandra Massey, chancellor. “She is well-deserving of this scholarship and is a great representation of the ASUN nursing program.   The nurses we are training at ASUN will have a significant and lasting impact on the communities they serve. ”

Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) students must pass the standardized NCLEX® test to determine if they are competent in the skills required to obtain an entry-level nursing position.

“It is such a privilege to work with Hurst Review Services to provide scholarships for NCLEX® certification fees for our members,” said Phi Theta Kappa Foundation Executive Director, Dr. Monica Marlowe. “Exam costs often create a financial barrier for students that hinders their ability to enter the workforce. We hope this partnership is the first of many to benefit our members who face the additional costs of certifications necessary for them to find employment.”

This is the first scholarship of its kind designed to assist Phi Theta Kappa nursing students planning to take the NCLEX® exam. Hurst CEO Pat Lowery said the organization’s mission is to help nursing students succeed by improving clinical judgment skills through the best NCLEX® preparation course available and Hurst and Phi Theta Kappa work together to provide the resources required to begin a successful career in nursing.

Phi Theta Kappa honor society is made up of more than 3.2 million members and has nearly 1,300 chapters in nine nations, and since 1988, Hurst’s NCLEX® review course has helped hundreds of thousands of nursing students pass the exam on their first attempt. All members have been offered a $50 discount on course study materials.
