ASUN Chancellor Receives ESGR Patriot Award

NEWPORT, Ark. (3-10-2014) — Arkansas State University-Newport Chancellor Dr. Sandra Massey was recently named as the recipient of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award.  The award, given to individuals in recognition of their support of America’s Citizen Warriors, was presented to Massey last week on the ASUN campus in Newport.

Recipients of the award are nominated by employees or spouses of those who serve in the Guard or Reserve and reflects efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting of leaves of absence if needed.

“It is certainly an honor to be the recipient of the Patriot Award,” said Massey.  “Everyone at ASU-Newport takes great pride in supporting our troops, and we are extremely proud to have members of both the Guard and Reserve as students and staff on all of our campus locations.  Supporting the efforts of these heroic individuals is an honor in light of the sacrifice that they make to their families and country.”

Massey was nominated for the award by Matt Rice, President of the ASU-Newport Student Veterans Organization.
